She announced upcoming informational sessions on September
11, September 25, October 2, and October 16, all at 7:00 p.m., to be held in the same meeting
room and led by Rodney Collins. Additional webinars hosted by Mashpee Clean Waters are
planned for September 18 and October 9, with registration required. Ms. Dangel provided
background on the project, noting that site plans and renderings will be available at the
sessions. She explained that the proposed amphidrome system will be entirely underground,
with only a small building for mechanical components, designed to be embedded in a hillside
to reduce visual impact. A 100-foot natural buffer behind abutting homes will remain intact.
She emphasized potential opportunities to use the site for biodiversity restoration, particularly
for New England cottontail and local pollinators.
• Ms. Dangel also explained that groundwater levels, at 160 feet below grade, make the site
favorable. She addressed concerns that the project was being rushed, clarifying that it has been
in discussion for years and is prioritized in the town manager's 2024-2025 goals. She stressed
that state-imposed deadlines for competitive SFR funding are driving the current timeline. She
further noted that rejecting the project would forfeit significant state and county funding, while
allowing nitrogen and phosphorus to continue polluting local waters. She urged the public and
commissioners to attend the sessions.
Page 1
