After
receipt of an application, the next step in the process is to authorize an appraisal.
Motion made by Mr. Klein to authorize an appraisal of Gooseberry Island to determine the
maximum value of the property for a sum not to exceed $5,000.
Motion seconded by Mr. Schmuhl.

VOTE: 8-0. Unanimous.
Roll Call Vote:
Ms. Russell, yes Mr. Klein, yes Mr. Hyde, yes Ms. Waygan, yes
Ms. Barbee, yes Ms. Wyman-Colombo, yes Mrs. MacDougall, yes
Mr. Schmuhl, yes Opposed, none
Members of the Community Preservation Committee discussed the acquisition process with
Matthew Haney, Trustee of Gooseberry Island. It was noted the CPC authorized an appraisal
when the application was first submitted in 2021. However, the appraisal did not move forward
due to pending litigation.
Mr. Haney reiterated that he is willing to work with the Town to move forward with the
acquisition stating this is the largest piece of waterfront property in the Town of Mashpee, and
the asking price remains firm.
It was noted the CPC is attempting to move forward with the application which was late-filed. If
the project advances it is likely the CPC would authorize a municipal bond to support the
purchase.
