,yrxrasr.a
Town of Mashpee Community Preservation Commission
" 16 Great Neck Road North
° Mashpee, MA 02649
Barbee, and another local resident later called to thank the town for creating the access. The recreation
director, Mary Bradbury, was pleased to hear the property was being actively used.
The neighbors have taken on an informal role as stewards of the land, watching over it and reporting
any issues. One neighbor even called Ms. Barbee one evening to report that an alarm was sounding
inside the building at 475 Nathan Ellis. After consultation, the fire department was called, and the
building was checked. It was discovered that one smoke alarm had expired and needed to be removed.
Ms. Barbee contacted DPW the following day and asked them to inspect all alarms and replace
batteries, since the last replacement had been in December. DPW confirmed that they held keys to the
building and would ensure the alarms were in working order going forward.
Sidewalk and Bike Path Discussion
Committee members also discussed the new sidewalk construction near the pond and the significant
tree clearing and sidewalk construction occurring along Route 151. Members noted that the removal of
so many trees had made Squirrel Pond much more visible from the road. While concerns were raised
about the proximity of the work to the water, assurances were given that there is sufficient space for
both the sidewalk and the bike path. Chair Russell expressed optimism that the project would balance
environmental considerations with accessibility improvements.
Closing the Annual Public Hearing
The public hearing was formally closed and attendees were thanked for their participation and
feedback.
MOTION: To close the Annual Public Hearing.
Motion by: Mary Waygan Seconded by: Lynne Barbee
Vote: Motion passed by unanimous vote.
OLD BUSINESS
Vote to Close Completed Projects
Project Closure: Lakewood Cemetery Restoration:
The committee reviewed completed projects, starting with the Lakewood Cemetery restoration, the first
cemetery project funded by CPC. The work is complete, with an unexpended balance of$6,488.96
remaining.
MOTION: To close out the Lakewood Cemetery Restoration project and returning the$6,488.96 to the
category from which it came from.
Motion by: Mary Waygan Seconded by: Judy MacDougall
Vote: Motion passed by unanimous vote.
7
