FINCOM-Regular Session
December 11,2025

1. Discuss and take action on the following requests for use of the FY2026
Finance Committee’s Reserve Funds:
a. IT requests $23,170.00 to purchase Rapid7, a premier cybersecurity
Managed Detection and Response platform, to actively mitigate cyber
attacks
The Finance Committee welcomed the Town’s IT Director, Curt Curry, to present a request
for $23,170 from FY2026 Reserve Funds to purchase Rapid7 Managed Detection and
Response (MDR) cybersecurity services.
The IT Director explained that Rapid7 provides 24/7 monitoring and active response to
cyber threats, offering significantly greater protection than the Town’s current service,
which costs approximately $18,000 annually. Rapid7 would detect, isolate, and often
remediate cyber incidents before systems are compromised. Recent cyber incidents in
other municipalities were cited as examples of the growing risk.
Due to the existing contract with the current provider through July 1, there will be a
temporary overlap of services for several months. The $23,170 request would cover one
full year of Rapid7 service.
The Town Manager and committee members expressed support, noting the increasing
prevalence of ransomware and email-based attacks and the value of adding an additional
layer of cybersecurity protection. The enhanced system may also improve the Town’s
insurance standing.
Motion made by Greg McKelvey to approve IT Request of $23,170.00 to purchase Rapid7, a
premier cybersecurity Managed Detection and Response platform, to actively mitigate
cyber attacks
Motion seconded by Keith Machado.
Motion passed 5-0.
Roll Call Vote
Jeffrey Pettengill, yes; Greg McKelvey, yes; Richard Weiner, yes; Keith Machado,
yes; Darlene Furbush, yes.
2. Town Manager updates on other items
Town Manager Rodney Collins reported that the operating budget review process has
begun.Several departmental reviews have already taken place, and calendars for both
budget and CIP reviews have been distributed.
