IMP. IMBO
d"frk,{ynr,fw VhP.
w Mashpee lncCusion and'Diversity Committee
16 Great Neck Road -Vorth-
MasGtpee, M-A 02649
Ms. Stevenson added this discussion will continue once we establish what our purpose is with
the results of the community's feedback.
Race Amity Day
Chair Stevenson is looking to incorporate an international immigrant perspective to RAD. She
wants to discuss this further with the Committee. She is contacting Jeni Wheeler with Family
Table Collaborative for ideas and how to expand for an international menu.
Ms. Landry suggested rebranding the title of the event to make it more welcoming.
Ms. Stevenson commented that the concept was brought here by the Baha'i, and 11 states
recognize Race Amity in some capacity. We should play with the title but still keep Race Amity
Day,just make it stronger. The festival has been growing every year, the first year we had 50
people and now we have over 200 participants. The grant we wrote is based on two specific
performers and their ethnicities through dance and music.
Human Rights Academy/ Human Rights Club
The Chair will be meeting with Celeste Reynolds, who is very involved in the school. After
some turnover she is hoping to rebuild that connection. There will be a meeting Friday to
discuss how we could support and continue the relationship and membership. Ms. Purdey did
a lot of recruiting.
The Barnstable County Human Rights Commission had its 20-year anniversary breakfast.
Marie Blackburn gave a wonderful speech about Human Rights being the foundation of
freedom. It was very uplifting. Two students were recognized for their poetry about immigrants,
one from Sturgis and the other from Nauset Regional.
Cemetery Request
Nothing to report.
Alternate Tribal Representative
Ms. Stevenson wrote a letter to Brian Weeden and David Weeden and copied Winnie
Johnson-Graham about nominating an alternate. She is waiting for a response.
New Member
There was interest expressed by a young woman who may not be interested any longer. A
younger person with a school-aged child would be a great addition. The Chair would like to
write something for recruitment through the school's weekly Wednesday parent outreach.
Once drafted, the Chairwill send to Ms. Hill.
4
