Freshwater Ponds Committee
January 20,206

Motion seconded by Linda Farricy.
Motion passed by unanimous consent.
NEW BUSINESS
• Update from Water Quality Coordinator, Ashley Fisher on Johns Pond & Moody
Pond
Ashley provided an update regarding funding adjustments for Johns Pond and Moody Pond.
She explained that the request will not be able to move forward for the May Town Meeting
due to the town’s consideration of a potential Proposition 2½ override. Instead, the plan is
to pursue either a CPC submission or placement on the October Town Meeting warrant. If
submitted through the CPC, the article would still appear on the October warrant, with the
application due in the spring. Ashley will prepare the submission with support.
The intent is for the Wastewater Department to bring the request forward, given that Phase
3 is adjacent to the Johns Pond watershed. The group could then endorse the request, and
the EOC is considering drafting a letter of support.
 Community & Public Engagement Events
The committee discussed participation in the upcoming Honor the Earth Fair on April 18. It
was suggested that having a presence at the event would be a good opportunity for
outreach, even if limited to providing pond information or collecting email sign-ups.
Jonathan Small expressed interest in participating under a broader committee presence
representing all ponds rather than a single-pond focus. Concerns were raised about
whether sufficient materials, signage, or handouts could be prepared in time. It was
suggested that a simple one-page flyer or informational display may be sufficient, and that
the event would serve as a valuable opportunity to increase awareness and connect with
the public. The idea of creating a shared “Pond Corner,” potentially including information
on cyanobacteria, was discussed. The committee agreed to continue the discussion at its
2
