LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Building & Grounds
The Children's Room reopened after renovations, with their full collection, on
February 4th. The Children's Program Room, the activity space in the rear of the
Children's Room, is currently being updated and refreshed. The steps in the back
of the room were dismantled, and the woodwork and trim have been extended to
the floor and repainted. The steps posed as a continuous safety issue for small
children.
The tile floor in the program room is being replaced with synthetic wood flooring
with the remaining balance of funds from the DPW annual flooring budget. This
will create a warmer surface with less upkeep for the DPW.
The rewiring of the main desk required electricians and the alarm company,
which accounted for more costs and time dedicated to this project.
The vendor for the desk is coming tomorrow, they have canceled multiple site
visits since December, due to supply chain issues. The pieces are modular, on
wheels, with adjustable height for standing or sitting to fit staff's different needs.
The Event Room projectoris not functioning atthe moment, causing the room to
remain closed to reservations by outside groups, with some exceptions given to
town departments who do not require audio visual equipment.
Circulation
Circulation was 12,698 with 75 new library cards issued. The circulation figure
was lower than normal for January since the Children's Room was closed for
renovations during the entire month.
IT
Userful, the library's contracted software platform manager is going out of
business. Our contract ends with them on June 30th, and the Library Director is
activelyworking with the departmentto identifyvendors who can align with future
needs, like cybersecurity, which remains a primary concern for towns.
2
