Town of Mashpee Conservation Commission
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashpee, MA 02649
MOTION: To close an issue for 134 Summersea Road with the following conditions:
1. A three-year mitigation monitoring plan;
2. Submission of a revised plan to staff showing the size and draft of the boat
(or smaller vessel) utilizing the pier; and
3. Inclusion of dry wells on the plan, with location to be determined in
consultation with staff.
Motion by: Richard Sahl Seconded by: Sandi Godfrey
Vote: Motion passed.
Aye: Steve Cook, Sarah Thornbrugh, Sandi Godfrey, Richard Sahl, Seana Pitt
Nay: Paul Colombo (stating concerns regarding insufficient nitrogen reduction given the
availability of more advanced septic system technologies)
NOI 61 Shoestring Bay Road, 61 Shoestring Bay Rd,LLC. Glenn Ferguson. Proposed 43-
establishment of a view corridor to include removing or pruning select trees and replacing 3411
native understory plantings and creating a footpath. (Representative: Crawford Land
Management).
The representative Jen Crawford, explained that the plan minimizes disturbance by retaining larger
canopy trees, including a 14-inch oak, and avoiding extensive clearing. Smaller trees, including select
pines and saplings, are proposed for removal and replacement with species such as serviceberry and witch
hazel. The approach is intended to reduce the need for ongoing maintenance while maintaining ecological
integrity and increasing native plant diversity.
Discussion focused on potential impacts to existing vegetation, including concern regarding removal
of a smaller oak tree and the overall balance between vista creation and preservation of the woodland.
Additional discussion addressed restoration of a previously disturbed pathway area, with a suggestion to
include supplemental plantings of shade-tolerant species as a condition.
The Commission also discussed overlap with a separate proposal for a boardwalk on the same
property. It was noted that both projects could not proceed simultaneously as proposed, and clarification is
needed regarding whether the applicant intends to pursue the vista pathway or the boardwalk. The
applicant agreed to coordinate with the property owner and revise the plans accordingly, including
showing the relationship between the two proposals and adjusting plantings if necessary.
The applicant agreed to further evaluate specific tree removal concerns and provide additional
clarification in a revised submission.
MOTION: To continue 61 Shoestring Bay Road to April 23, 2026.
Motion by: Sandi Godfrey Seconded bv: Richard Sahl
Vote: Motion passed by unanimous vote.
Steve Cook,Paul Colombo, Sandi Godfrey, Richard Sahl, Seana Pitt
11
