Fin Com-Regu la r Session <br /> August 21,2025 <br /> Merridith Harris of Main Street spoke in favor of the proposed warrant article 4, citing <br /> concerns aboutwater quality. She noted that Wakeby Pond is located at the headwaters of <br /> the Mashpee River, which adds to the urgencyof addressing pollution issues. Harris <br /> pointed outthat, dueto the area's geography, there are limited options forwastewater <br /> discharge. She also referenced the need for cleanup efforts at Waquoit Bay. <br /> Mary Oleksak of 18 Captain Sand Circle spoke in support of Article 4. Oleksak stressed the <br /> importance of protecting the town's endangered freshwater resources. She praised the <br /> project's innovation and the efforts of town staff in securing funding, emphasizingthe <br /> significant anticipated reductions in both phosphorus and nitrogen. Oleksak <br /> acknowledged the challenges of addressing water quality in Waquoit Bay but urged the <br /> town not to overlook the importance of safeguarding freshwater and the broader Mashpee <br /> watershed. <br /> Lynne Barbee of 73 Surf Drive spoke in regard to Article 4, expressing her strong support for <br /> clean water initiatives. However, she raised concerns aboutthetown committing$26 <br /> million for a projectwithout specifying its location in the warrant article. Barbee <br /> emphasized the importance of transparencyand requested that the town clearly identify <br /> where the project will be situated. She questioned what would happen to remaining open <br /> space acres underthis project. <br /> Colleen Schofield of Gunters Lane raised concerns about a lack of transparency from the <br /> town.
