IMP. IMBO
d"fr,,{ynr,fw VhP.
w Mashpee lncCusion and'Diversity Committee
16 Great Neck RoadNorth
Mashyee, M-A 0264.9
to support. The Protect Act is a big one, to help with immigrant legal defense, data privacy
protection, and providing ID to law enforcement.
OLD BUSINESS
Column
Max Nash wrote the article for March on class dynamics and how inequality has risen over the
past decade, while the lower working class is systemically kept down by those in power. He
proposes to convince Congress to keep stock trading out of politics, and work for the people
not corporate shareholders.
Mr. Zefzaf praised the piece, calling it"excellent!"
Mr. Kupferman noted the upcoming April column will be submitted by Cyndy Jones from
Heroes in Transition.
Brochure Dispersal
There is one more brochure holder and more brochures to be distributed and delivered around
Town. Vice Chair dropped some off at the banks and noted seeing them in both the Post Office
and Senior Center. Mr. Zefzaf dropped some off at the Public Library and Tribal Government
Center. Mr. Klein left some at the Waquoit Congregational Church.
Survey
The survey received 212 total responses with a bulk of them from Town Meeting, Town Hall,
and the Senior Center. Mr. Kupferman went over some data, saying the most prioritized
response for every category.
Sponsoring presentations with speakers was not a high priority for the majority. Number 7 was
striking, MIDC should respond to acts of hate and report to town government, and actively
intervene to achieve resolutions, with the second highest being bring issues to the Select
Board. He noted many responses indicated the citizens want this Committee doing more than
it's current charge. Our position now is more about raising consciousness, but we have no
teeth and can't take action.
Mr. Kupferman serves on the Barnstable County Human Rights Commission, and they don't
necessarily hold much power, they can refer to legal counsel, but there is a hierarchy. The best
we can do is share these responses with the Select Board and gauge their interest.
2
