<br />Select Board <br />April 27,2026 <br />Minutes <br /> <br />has a responsibility to conduct due diligence when appointing members to regulatory <br />boards, noting that such boards carry significant responsibilities. He stated that Board <br />members must balance three primary considerations: legal parameters, policy-making <br />responsibilities related to Town policies and bylaws, and the implementation of those <br />duties at the board level. <br />Chair Colombo-Wyman stated that it may be beneficial to involve legal counsel and <br />explore additional professional development and training opportunities for board and <br />committee members. <br />Selectman Weeden referenced prior collaborative training programs and discussed the <br />value of professional development opportunities for board members, including training <br />focused on decision-making, regulatory responsibilities, bylaw implementation, and <br />creating defensible decisions. He stated that continued professional training could help <br />ensure that regulatory changes and bylaws are consistently implemented at both the board <br />and departmental levels. <br />Town Manager Rodney Collins agreed that professional development would be valuable for <br />both current and incoming members and suggested that training opportunities could be <br />made available to boards, committees, and councils throughout Town government. He also <br />suggested that training could be recorded and made accessible for future reference and <br />onboarding purposes. <br />Town Manager Rodney Collins noted that there are numerous professional resources and <br />trainers available that could assist the Town in these e?orts. <br />Selectwoman Kelley-Wilson discussed the importance of maintaining decorum and <br />professionalism while respecting di?ering opinions among board and committee <br />members. <br />Town Manager Rodney Collins reminded the Board that formal procedures already exist if <br />removal of a board member ever becomes necessary. <br />11 <br /> <br /> <br />
