The desk
will have two workstations that have the capability to change from sitting to
standing, with storage cabinets in the back, a book drop in front, and each unit
is modular and on wheels. The DPW will coordinate for the electrical wiring
once the desk has arrived. The Friends of the Library will provide the funding for
the project.
MOTION:
Ann Macdonald made a motion to approve the expense of $39,000
for the Children's Room desk. Seconded by Kate Milde. All in favor.
Roll Call Vote:
Ruth Nickerson -Yes Ann Macdonald - Yes
Beth Geatrakas -Yes Joan Lyons-Yes
Sandi Lahart-Yes Kate Milde - Yes
Mary LeClair- Yes
IT
Userful, the Library's public computer management system is going out of
business in 2026 and will be replaced. All the computers designated for use by
the public will be impacted by this change. The Library Director is working with
the IT Department for this transition.
The Children's Room, the Young Adult Room and the Adult Services
department will each be outfitted with appropriate equiptment for the intended
audience. The Library Director is researching early literacy stations for the
Children's Room and provided pictures and pricing.
Beth Geatrakas asked about a children's interface for searching the CLAMS
catalog, as the previous ILS did have that ability. Aspen is the new discovery
platform, and CLAMS has not offered a separate Children's catalog powered by
Aspen. The Library Director will look into it to see if that option exists.
2
