IMBO d"frk,{ynr,fw VhP. w Mashpee lncCusion and'Diversity Committee 16 Great Neck RoadNorth Mashyee, M-A 0264.9 • November: Forward to Select Board for Town Meeting agenda • December: Town Meeting vote • January: Begin implementation and outreach Proposed Implementation We propose: • Initial Allocation: Designate a modest section (10-20 plots) within the existing town cemetery, with the potential to expand based on future needs. • Burial Practices: Permit natural burials (simple wooden caskets or shrouds) and modest grave markers in accordance with Islamic tradition, within local health and safety regulations. • Cemetery Management: This section would remain under the management of the town, with no additional burden on municipal staff or resources. Benefits to the Town of Mashpee • Demonstrates leadership in equity and inclusion • Strengthens community trust and social cohesion • Honors the full life cycle of residents from all backgrounds • Avoids future strain on families and town services by addressing a growing need proactively We respectfully request the following: 1. That the Mashpee Diversity and Inclusion Committee review and discuss this proposal at an upcoming meeting. 2. If approved by vote, that the Committee formally forward the proposal to the Mashpee Select Board for inclusion on the Town Meeting agenda and consideration for a final vote.
