Town of M.shee Fire Station Building Committee Minutes of meeting May 9, 2000 The Town of l ashpee Fire station Building Committee meeting . was called to order at the Fire Station, 99A Nathan Ellis Highway, Mahpee, assahusetts at 3 : 05 p.m. n Tuesday, May 9, 2000 . Joyce Mason,, Construction Procurement Specialist, presided. Committee Members present-, George Baker, Fire Chief; Joyce Mason; Elizabeth Petti Peter Thomas 3 : 12 p.m. ) ; Russell Wheeler, Assistant Building Inspector/clerk of the Works (3 . 10) . and George Wezniak. Mrs. Mason declared a quorum to he present and called the Meeting to order. Review of Testing Services Proposals Briggs Engineering Testing; Summit Ltd. ; and. Tibbetts Engineering Corp. Mrs. Mason explained the Town would d e t e gni.ne the number and amount of time required for each test conducted by the contractor. She mentioned three necessary tests, ' one each for steel, concrete, and sail . The Fire Chief stated the concrete testing is scheduled for the coring weekend when forms are to be put in place; with footings and the retaining wall scheduled for Noonday, May 15th. Mr. wheeler stated that two of the firms have BERS state approvals, Briggs Engineering and Tibbetts. - Be- noted there i little cost difference between them. Mrs. Mason commented that costs may work out to be less with the Tibbetts firm, as their rates are determined on an hourly basis. The Fire Chief requested one compaction test of the pour. Mrs. Mason asked for MLr. Wheeler' s recommendation; to which he responded one or two compaction tests would be reasonable, however testing at the time of the pour could he in excess of two to three times. There was some discussion as to which rates would be more cost effective (half-day vs. hourly) . Mr, wheeler explained the day and time of the pour would he scheduled in advance and should -not require the contractor to he present all day for any of the testing.
