BOX 1108 MASHPEE, MA 02649 Finance Committee Minutes Town Hall July. .13 ,. 1988 Present : Edward Dolan , John Ferriday , Carl Heller and William Towner Vern Polka , Town Accountant Michael Coronella, Director of the Community School joined the Finance Committee meeting seeking support of Article lb , on the Special Town Meeting Warrant of August 8th, 1988 . The article seeks town approval to raise and appropriate or appropriate and transfer from available funds the sum of $2 , 014 to the Community School for the Director ' s salary . Chairman Heller informed Mr . Coronella that the finance Committee was still supportive of this request and would recommend it at the town meeting . i Dr . DeMoura , Superintendent of Schools , joined the meeting to discuss two articles on the Special Town Meeting Warrant . Article 10 seeks town approval of the sum of $175 , 867 to fund a contract between the town and the Mashpee Teacher ' s Association for the fiscal year 1989 . DeMoura noted that this figure has been ratified by the Teacher ' s. Association is presently before the School Committee for ratification . Article 11 , seeks town approval of the sum of $7 , 595 to contract for the development of a management plan in order to comply with the requirements of the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act . This law came into effect in 1986 and requires all school buildings be inspected and establish an asbestos management plan and follow it . This law effects all buildings constructed prior to 1988. DeMoura noted that Mashpee has gone out to bid jointly with other towns and the bid price for a management plan is $7 , 595 . He noted -that the Middle School is asbestos free , however it still must be certified . The Davis School has a considerable amount of asbestos and this expense was not budgeted . DeMoura noted that this expense was not included in the school budget as the rules of the law were not finalized till March or April of this year thus it could not be addressed in this fiscal year budget . He emphasized that the requested funds were not for removal , however in fiscal year 1990 he must start to implement the management plan, and once the asbestos is removed the school must be inspected every three years . Finance Committee recommends both articles .
