MASHFEE FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES MARCH O. 199 MEETING i---'OMMENCED AT 7: 00 P. M. Members present : Tony Gallo, Chairman; Deirdre Greel ish. Vise Chairman; Denise Sullivan; Al Polsi ; Dan Goggin; . Ed Baker ; John Ferriday. APPOINTMENTS Police Chief Curtis Frye came before the ►Ommitte to discuss his need for three new poliwe cruisers. Chief Frye explained he presently has 15 police vehicles - S marked cruisers for patrol , 2 cruisers for details, 3 unmarked vehicles for the detectives, one unmarked vehicle for the Deputy Chief and one unmarked cruiser for himself. The Chief said last year he received no new cruisers and the year before he only received 2 so he' s now behind in replacements. He said the average life of a cruiser is years as after that they' ll need a complete overhaul . The floors on 2 cruisers have been replaced due to rust and one - cruiser has had a front end .job and others will follow if not replaced. The Chief said in the past cars being replaced have been auctioned off after first being offered to other town .departments but he' s thinking of trading them in and using the money for the equipment that will b:= needed can the new cruisers. Because of the style of the new cruisers the old lights and cages won' t fit . Chief Frye said the cruisers cost approximately $10, 00 and with the new equipment will cast $15,000. The Finance Committee felt this was a better idea so as not to put a burden on departments taking the _old Wars and then having_ to have money to repair them. The Finance Committee also suggested {=hief Frye ask: the Executive Secretary if he can also trade in the civil defense vehicles that are not being_ used and keep one for parts if it ' s feasible. The Finance Committee questioned Chief Frye regarding Bea Horton, floating clerk, being permanently assigned to the Police Department . Chief Frye explained the position of records roam clerk: was already existing and vacant and as Ms. Horton would be losing her .job as floating clerk due to funding, the Executive Secretary asked Chief Frye to use Ms. Horton to fill his position and it was done. Chief Frye said he needs that position filled as she' s the only clerk: in the records roam. The Finance Committee informed the Chief they were recommending $1 , 309, E'3S for the Police Department budget . MINUTES MOTION by Mr . Baker/Mr , Goggin to accept the minutes of March 16, 199-2 as written, SO VOTED UNANIMOUSLY.
