TOWN OF MASHPEE
DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE MEETING
December 8, 1999
The Design Review Committee met at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8, 1999
in Room 3 of Mashpee Town Hall.
Committee Members Present: William Hauck, Ex Officio; Thomas F. O'Hara, and
Mary LeBlanc. Also Present: Russ Wheeler.
1. Brickyard Marketplace, 439 Nathan Ellis Highway — Revisions
Mr. Michael Grotzke displayed different plans from those presented several months
ago. Some vegetation has been removed, previous windows have been restored,
the drive-thru has been widened, and the island moved.
It was suggested a stronger buffer zone be created. A modified landscaping plan
needs to be submitted, it was agreed.
The applicant requested installing an 8 ft. fence rather than the 7ft. wooden
stockage fence previously proposed. The dumpsters will be turned to the side,
corralled, and fenced in.
2. Canal Auto Body Co., 64 Algonquin Ave., Mash pee
Messrs. Russo, Doyle and Nickerson presented plans for an 8,000 sq. ft. building on.
commercial land at 64 Algonquin Ave., located three lots back from Rt. 151. The
proposed driveway is aligned with the opening that presently exists. Vinyl clapboard
will be utilized on a steel building. It was suggested the appearance of the building
would be enhanced with stucco on the upper portion, a mansard roof, the use of
natural materials, and split face block.
Initial plans call for renting part of the building, which will intensify the parking
requirements.
Grassed drainage swales tend to wipe out natural buffers. It was requested strong
buffers be planned along the property lines. A couple of shade trees will be planted
in the parking area. A 3-4 ft. planting bed will exist in the front against the building.
Additional shade trees will be planted throughout the southwest exposure. The
landscaping and grading plan will specify the calipers and type of trees to be
planted.
The sign will be of a clean, simple design with plantings under it. A lighting plan will
be submitted at a later date.
