Mashpee Design Review Committee
Minutes of Meeting Held Wednesday, October 29, 2003
Mashpee Town Hall Meeting Room 3
Committee Members Present: Walter Yarosh, Thomas O'Hara, and Russell Wheeler.
Absent: Gregory Enos,Mary LeBlanc, Edward Govoni, and Don Myers.
Summary
• Echo Road—To return to Design Review with final proposal prior to going to Selectmen. Conditions
stipulated in minutes below that will be attached to approval, if given.
• Mashpee Commons—Buildings 12A and 16 stamped approved; Buildings 17 and 29 to be reviewed
again as noted on site plans.
Walter Yarosh, Chairman, called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m.
Suns
Jeff Fields
Echo Road
Directory Sign
Jeff Fields and Ted Nadolny(Mashpee Chamber of Commerce) appeared. Jeff addressed the meeting saying
that they have not submitted his application because the Selectmen asked the Chamber of Commerce to become
the licensing body. Ted added that they'll be submitting the application and showed the application they've
prepared, and also showed site plan and proposed ladder sign. Jeff said that Greg Taylor identified where the
sign should go, which will be on Town-owned land.
There was lengthy discussion on the matter because, among other things, this could be a precedent-setting type
of decision and, most importantly, Design Review wants to assure that it is done properly and thoughtfully.
Following points were delved into in detail:
• Jeff advised that it is worked out with Selectmen that for this Echo Park sign board only retail (not
commercial) will have slot on ladder signboard.
• Approving sign for whole sub-division in Echo Park so Design Review said Chamber should have a
policy as to who goes on sign.
• Ted noted the Chamber is not only protecting Town from liability, but also Chamber will have the
responsibility to resolve all problems and all issues.
• Walter stated that the sign code allows each lot to have 40 sq. feet sign on their property. He suggested:
If you have policy that anyone on ladder board sign must reduce lot sign by 50%--that is,to 20 sq. feet,
that would probably eliminate many from requesting to go on the ladder board.
• Chamber will decide slot size space and consistency on colors/logos used. Ted said the Chamber has
experience on this and that he has researched ladder sign rules, etc. of other towns.
