MINUTES May 18, 20 00 2 BOARD OF HEALTH
NEW BUSINESS
a. Selectman David Leveille spoke regarding the proposed transfer of control of the
Mashpee Transfer Station. He stated that his intention is to clear up any
confusion over the conveyance of transfer station operations. He stated that it
is in no way an attempt to take over the duties of the Board of Health and not a
power play. He wants an orderly transition and doesn't want to take over the
supervision of the staff. He further stated that the Board of Selectmen needs
help in keeping the organization in tact.
Mr. Ball stated that no decision on the transfer station could be made at this
point.
Mr. Santos questioned why the operation of the transfer station is being
conveyed at all.
Mr. Leveille stated that this is exactly why there needs to be a workshop
between the two boards.
Board members decided to have Mr. Santos and Mr. Doherty discuss this
matter further.
APPOINTMENT: Tom Fudala/Sewer Commission re: Designation of Nitrogen Sensitive
Areas
Mr. Tom Fudala, Town Planner, was in attendance for this scheduled appointment.
Mr. Fudala presented the Board with nitrogen sensitive designation information and
an overlay map of Zone II's on a watershed map.
Discussion took place with regard to designation of nitrogen sensitive areas in the
Town of Mashpee.
2. Approve Minutes of May 4, 2000 meeting
Approval of minutes was postponed until all Board members are present.
3. Bi-monthly Transfer Station Inspection Report
Board acknowledged.
4. Draft John's Pond Fact Sheet
Mr. McQuaid stated that the new fact sheet deals with the upwelling in John's
Pond and that the Board should post the ponds to make the public aware that
there was one spot off the pier where samples showed trace levels of
contamination. AFCEE wants to be extremely cautious. The May 2000 results
will be available shortly. The signs will be posted at the boat ramp and at the
public beach. He stressed, however, that he doesn't want to create a panic
situation.
