MINUTES May 18, 20 00 2 BOARD OF HEALTH <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> a. Selectman David Leveille spoke regarding the proposed transfer of control of the <br /> Mashpee Transfer Station. He stated that his intention is to clear up any <br /> confusion over the conveyance of transfer station operations. He stated that it <br /> is in no way an attempt to take over the duties of the Board of Health and not a <br /> power play. He wants an orderly transition and doesn't want to take over the <br /> supervision of the staff. He further stated that the Board of Selectmen needs <br /> help in keeping the organization in tact. <br /> Mr. Ball stated that no decision on the transfer station could be made at this <br /> point. <br /> Mr. Santos questioned why the operation of the transfer station is being <br /> conveyed at all. <br /> Mr. Leveille stated that this is exactly why there needs to be a workshop <br /> between the two boards. <br /> Board members decided to have Mr. Santos and Mr. Doherty discuss this <br /> matter further. <br /> APPOINTMENT: Tom Fudala/Sewer Commission re: Designation of Nitrogen Sensitive <br /> Areas <br /> Mr. Tom Fudala, Town Planner, was in attendance for this scheduled appointment. <br /> Mr. Fudala presented the Board with nitrogen sensitive designation information and <br /> an overlay map of Zone II's on a watershed map. <br /> Discussion took place with regard to designation of nitrogen sensitive areas in the <br /> Town of Mashpee. <br /> 2. Approve Minutes of May 4, 2000 meeting <br /> Approval of minutes was postponed until all Board members are present. <br /> 3. Bi-monthly Transfer Station Inspection Report <br /> Board acknowledged. <br /> 4. Draft John's Pond Fact Sheet <br /> Mr. McQuaid stated that the new fact sheet deals with the upwelling in John's <br /> Pond and that the Board should post the ponds to make the public aware that <br /> there was one spot off the pier where samples showed trace levels of <br /> contamination. AFCEE wants to be extremely cautious. The May 2000 results <br /> will be available shortly. The signs will be posted at the boat ramp and at the <br /> public beach. He stressed, however, that he doesn't want to create a panic <br /> situation. <br />
