TOWN OF MASHPEE
BOARD OF HEALTH
July 5, 2001
Meeting was called to order at 7:12 p.m.
Members present: John T. Doherty, L. Glenn Santos, Steven R. Ball, and Veronica A.
Warden
THE TAPE IS NOT PART OF THE MEETING; IT IS FOR THE PURPOSE OF
TRANSCRIPTION ONLY.
Mr. John T. Doherty, Chairman
1. Sign warrants. Warrants signed.
2. Approve Minutes if available
No minutes were available for approval.
3. VFW proposal for Food Establishment- 470 Main Street (formerly Davy's
Locker
Ms. Warden stated that she hasn't received any formal requests from the VFW
but has been told that they are requesting a Building Permit to alter the
premises at 470 Main Street to allow for their restaurant/meeting hall. In
reviewing the plans, Ms. Warden discovered that plans were submitted in 1992
for an interim septic system, which was approved however there is no indication
that the system was ever installed. The plans indicated that this was a "repair
upgrade" to the existing system. Ms. Warden further indicated that the
building is not currently connected to Town water and that the plans on file do
not meet current Title V regulations.
Board members decided that the building must be connected to Town water
and the septic system upgraded to meet current Title V requirements prior to
occupancy by the VFW.
APPOINTMENT: Legal Seafoods/Mashpee Commons re: Seasonal Food Permit
Mr. A. John Renz of Mashpee Commons and Ms. Kim Sternick of Legal Seafoods were
in attendance for this scheduled appointment.
Ms. Warden informed Board members that Legal Seafoods has applied for an 8-week
Food Establishment permit to operate an outdoor clambake daily at Mashpee
Commons. They requested to be allowed to open as of July 1st, however with the
Boards'meeting schedule altered due to the death of Health Agent Elias McQuaid, she
allowed them to go ahead and open prior to the meeting with the Chairman's
permission. An inspection was performed by Ms. Warden, which indicated that the
operation met code requirements and that Legal Seafoods had put forth a great effort
and is cooperating 100%. There were a few issues with lavatories, however that is a
plumbing inspector's issue, not a Board of Health issue.
