Design Review Committee -2- March 28, 1997
4. Cooke' s Seafood - Sian - Ryan' s Way
Mary LeBlanc stepped down.
Mr. James Haidas and George Caggiano presented plans for a
free standing 5 ' x 81 , 10 ' high sign in front of the
restaurant. It would be approximately the same height as the
99 ' s sign. The committee found internal lighting
objectionable. It was pointed out there is currently
litigation pending regarding internally lit signs . The
consensus was that neon lights and internally lit signs should
be avoided. This committee did not look favorably upon the
proposed sign. The building sign, however, may be back lit .
Mary LeBlanc rejoined the meeting.
5. Dunkin' Donuts - Plan Review - 401 Main Street, Route 130
Site drainage and grading plans were displayed. Landscaping
plans were discussed in detail . One spruce will need to be
removed from the middle of the proposed parking lot; a maple
is in severe decline and may have to be removed. Suggestions
included saving an edge to create a tree canopy, adding larger
caliber maples and crabtrees for a strip in front, increased
height of junipers and cotoneasters to enhance the appearance,
and irrigation. A privet in the rear, if maintained, would be
acceptable.
There was concern voiced regarding the fact that only ten
parking spaces are being planned.
The matter of signage drew many comments . The appearance of
the main sign situated on one pole was not well received; two
poles would, be an improvement. It was suggested the "Drive
Thru" sign be combined with the main sign. If the main sign
dimensions remain at 14 ' x 8 ' , a Special Permit will be
required. All agreed a mock-up sign should be installed in
order to more clearly visualize the final sign.
The Highway Department ' s issues concerning slope and water
drainage have been addressed, Attorney Kirrane said.
Proposed colors for the building are light gray with white
trim.
Miscellaneous - Hoop House has not been cleaned up as
discussed.
Adjournment: 7:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
(94q4l.60 !
Jane A. Pierce,
Recording Secretary
