but the Article was written such that this was the case. Sid stated that he
would not favor spot zoning, especially since Mr. Gavin's land was included.
Tom asked Sullivan and Morton how the Cape Cod Commission was
receiving this project. Mr. Sullivan answered that he can't submit anything
to the Commission until that they get zoning but they have made contact
with a former member of the Cape Cod Commission and were told they
shouldn't anticipate a problem.
Tom asked if they'd looked at traffic studies. Mr. Morton answered that Tom
Fudala has done some independent studies by getting information from
some national traffic studies as to what types of traffic these operations
generate and, though it was general in nature, his preliminary information
indicates that the traffic load isn't that great. Also, the Cape Cod Commission
will probably make traffic recommendations because Route 28 a state
highway. Mr. Morton reiterated that they will have to answer to the
Commission's objections and conform to whatever they suggest.
Sid asked about the lighting. Tom mentioned that the new High School and
the Industrial Park, which is all lit up at night coupled with Mashpee
Commons, and a football game at night, it would be like a beacon. Sullivan
answered that their lighting engineer will design and analyze this — buffer
lighting will light the field rather than the sky and there won't be large lights
creating a great glow. There are methods of using shields to control the spill
of light with angles and poles. Tom wanted to know how high the lights
would be. Mr. Sullivan and Mr. Morton did not know at this time how high
the lights would be.
Nelson commended Mr. Sullivan and Mr. Morton for the quality of their
research and told them he was in favor of a project like this.
Tom felt that public education on the project was important and suggested
that Mr. Sullivan and Mr. Morton solicit the local newspapers to publicize
the project, pointing out the benefits to the town.
Jamie asked about the projected starting date. Mr. Sullivan informed them
that, pending a favorable response from the Town Meeting, they hoped to
break ground in October or November of this year.
Tom suggested that information also be sent to Little League coaches, soccer
leagues and the local cable station.
Mr. Sullivan mentioned that they would be employing 30 local people in the
park.
l 4
