MA 02649
FINANCE COMMITTEE MINUTES
Town Hall
February 25 , 1988
Present: Edward Dolan, Carl Heller, Joyce Howell
Joseph Murphy, Executive Secretary
Vern Polka, Town Accountant
The Finance Committee meeting commenced at 7 p.m. There was no quorum
however, the Chairman decided to proceed with review of the budgets. Decisions
regarding these budgets would be made at a later date when a quorum was present.
Town Clerk, Jane LaBute, joined the meeting to discuss the Town Clerk
and Elections and Registrations FY89 budgets. The Town Clerk amended the
Town Clerk budget at the meeting as follows:
Salary $23,000
Clerical Salary 8,271
Wages 1,200
Expenses 3,600
$36,071
Jane noted that the figure for the clerical salary could change. The figure
for the 20-hour position will have to be computed.
The Elections and Registrations budget was presented as follows:
Salary $1,375
Wages 3,790
Clerical Salary 9,037 .60 (20-hr. position)
15,815.80 (35-hr. position)
Census 7,000
Jane presented this budget showing the 20-hr. clerical position and a 35-hr.
-
position. Chairman Heller inquired as to whether the $7,000 would be
required for the census if the 35-hr. clerical position was approved. Jane
noted that she could not eliminate the $4,850 wages from the census as people
would still be needed to go door-to-door. The Town Clerk noted that the
census takes up a great deal of time, the last census was 265 pages, and she
is facing a population of 9,000. This census is required by General Law every
year. Jane noted she is not really sure how many people will be required,
and when the computer will be available to aid in the census , so she is not
sure how much could be cut from this wage part of the census.
