Personnel Board
Minutes of October 18, 1982 Page 3
• Chief Frye replied that if the person were trained well enough, he could handle it
stating that in the summer months they would need another person.
Dave asked about other duties?
Chief Frye said that there would be some typing duties.
Curtis asked about watching the cells.
Chief Frye said that someone usually comes in off the road to watch the prisoners.
He mentioned that he has three regular dispatchers who currently work overtime.
Bob asked how many hours would be involved?
Chief Frye said that he would need someone Saturday from 7 a.m. to Monday at 7 a.m.
and that he was talking about three dispatchers year round.
Manuel asked about the summer months?
Chief Frye replied that he would need three for the summer months with possibly
a fourth as a standby for when people are on vacation and out sick.
Curtis commented that he felt there was a need for someone.
Chief Priestly replied that there was a definite need in the Town of Mashpee to have
• twenty-four hour coverage to take calls.
Caroline replied that if you were to ask ten people, at least eight of them would think
that the town had twenty-four. hour coverage.
Chief Priestly commented how he called the 477-1234 number as a test and the police
dispatcher picked it up.
Chief Frye replied that the dispatcher will pick it up after so many rings; however,
he mentioned that the Police station does not know if a fire alarm system were to go
off.
Chief Priestly stated that Sel. Garland made a recommendation about an appendix off
the police station as a control center. He mentioned that they were talking about
dollars and in his view, the fire department has to grow with Mashpee.
Dave asked what sort,of alarms were received?
Chief Priestly mentioned a few; such as, United Church Village.
Bob asked what it would cost the town?
Chief Frye mentioned that it was costing already. He explained that dispatchers are
currently being paid at $4.89 per hour to a range of $5.33 per hour and that he would
pay a radio dispatcher $4 an hour and give them a title to fall under a job description.
He said that he would be looking for no less than three dispatchers mentioning that a
fourth as a standby would be good to have.
Chief Priestly stated that he would need the same and it would be at the same rate of
pay-
