Personnel Board
Minutes of October 18, 1982 Page 4
• Caroline asked about getting competent help at $4 per hour.
Curtis said that he felt the town could get it.
Chief Frye did mention that it does get hectic.
Curtis asked what other town's pay?
Chief Frye mentioned that he thought the rate was about $5 to $6 per hour.
The warrant from the town of Wareham with.the dispatcher salary was reviewed at this
point -- they pay their part-time dispatchers currently $4.40 and are due to increase
it to $4.62 per hour after vote at town meeting.
Curtis asked if they would have to be a police officer?
Chief Frye replied "no".
Curtis asked if the Fire Chief would want an EMT?
Chief Priestly stated that an EMT would have a better overview of the situation if
trained as he would act and re-act better.
Chief Frye mentioned that he would like them to have completed the first responders
course and CPR.
• The executive secretary commented that there would be a total of four dispatchers and
not four at the police station and four at the fire station. He explained that in the
police station, a person would .pick up on fire calls as the lines would be intercon-
nected. Currently, the emergency line of the fire department goes to the police depart-
ment and if a person were to call the emergency fire line, it would go to the police
department . if no one was at the fire station. Police Department does not have complete
radio communications. He further explained that the phone service at the Police station
is at 100% capacity and was on the day it was built and that the town is looking for a
new phone system for the police department.
Curtis used a hypothetical instance whereby no one was in the fire station and United
Church alarm systems rings in and police are across the road and don't know it.
Joe said that the alarm system has sufficient compacity to accomodate. The automatic
alarms can be tied in. It is a mechanical thing which could be done and it would not
cost the town -- it would cost the .people who have the alarm.
Curtis asked if they were talking four dispatchers all total?
Joe replied that was correct.
Chief Priestly and Chief Frye nodded "yes
Joe commented that there would be three individuals who would work forty-eight hours per
• week and a fourth person hired during the summer months.
Caroline asked how long a shift would be?
Chief Frye replied eight, hours.
