He told the Board that Jeff <br /> Tavares and Bill Chase applied for time and were denied explaining that they <br /> used up time which they could have accumulated as they felt that they could <br /> take as much time as they wanted to based on past practice. He explained fur- <br /> ther that at one point, early in July, Bill Chase was granted time and then was <br /> turned down at another point when he requested more time with the explanation <br /> that he didn't earn the time. <br /> David Hardy explained that the Board had a mixed opinion. He said that he felt <br /> because of prior practices more warning should have been given. <br /> Charles Stone said that there are twelve men on the department and they they can- . <br /> not all take their vacation at the end of the fiscal year. <br /> David Hardy explained that the Board would like to do the right thing. <br /> Sheldon Hamblin asked why the change came about and if there were the only town <br /> agency that had been changed? <br /> Bob Sullivan told the men that there wasn't any anomosity towards any department ex- <br /> plaining that the Personnel Board has a new Chairman, some new members and that the <br /> Board is currently reviewing pay sacles, job descriptions and trying to interpret <br /> contract language and what is right and wrong. He said that the Board did not know <br /> • that it caused any hardship on carry over of days. He said that the Board interpreted <br /> the article the way they thought stating that the Personnel Board's interpretation was <br /> that you have to earn the time and that the firefighters could grieve what the Board <br /> says and that they were not trying to take anything away. He asked if they were look- <br /> ing for an extension of time. <br /> Robert Long mentioned that he would like to receive a job description as he had never <br /> been given one. He also stated that everyobdy knows that you have to earn vacation <br /> time. <br /> Bob said that they didn't think about the people or that it was going to hurt as they <br /> don't have the time to follow through on every situation being a volunteer Board. <br /> Robert Long explained that the problem now is that men have not carried over vacation <br /> days and that he would like time given for them to accumulate days. <br /> Bob said that days have been accumulating since July. <br /> David pointed out that with twelve men vacation time can't be taken the same month <br /> stating that the first year time should have been held. <br /> Curtis asked how many men with ten years of service? <br /> Hamblin stated that there are one or two. <br /> • Curtis asked how many men with four through nine years of service? <br /> Long answered that there were six men. <br /> Curtis asked how many men with two to three years of service? <br />
