Personnel Board's <br /> Minutes of October 4, 1982 Page 3 <br /> • Meeting With Firefighters Association, cont. <br /> Robert Long stated that there were three with two to three years of service and that <br /> one man had less than one year of service. <br /> Caroline asked where the men stood on the totem-pole who were denied vacation time? <br /> Sheldon Hamblin stated that one man is in the tenth year and the other is in the <br /> third year. <br /> Robert Long stated that he .could see the town's point. <br /> Curtis then asked how he would handle the situation? <br /> Robert Long replied that he would do more researching; but that he was not sure. <br /> Curtis mentioned that situations such as taking vacation time before it was earned <br /> happened to him in the private sector and asked Long again how he would handle it? <br /> Robert Long replied that there would have to be some time in reserve. <br /> Charles Stone mentioned holding back a week's pay. <br /> Caroline commented that it is the realm of the Chief to allow vacation time. <br /> • Sheldon Hamblin replied that this situation occurred when Chief Mills was in the <br /> Department. <br /> Robert Long commented that based on past practice, there was no reason to deny the <br /> request for vacation time. <br /> Curtis asked if he would let a man get away with taking vacation time up front. <br /> Robert Long replied that if there was not abuse of the system, he would. <br /> Curtis asked if it has been abused. <br /> The men were in agreement that it hadn't been abused. <br /> Dave suggested holding back pay. <br /> Caroline replied that you can't do that. <br /> Manuel Glickman stated that they have a good point from their side of the fence. <br /> Robert Long mentioned that this would be a contract item for next year and that it <br /> would be brought up during negotiations in January and February. <br /> Manuel Glickman asked if there was any problem for next year? <br /> • Robert Long replied that at least it would be fair as vacations were denied. <br /> Dave asked if they wanted more time? <br /> Robert Long stated that they were asking for implementation of the old policy and <br /> then if the town wanted to change it next year, at least there would be advance notice. <br />
