LEISURE SERVICES ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING <br />NOVEMBER 5, 1996 <br />MASHPEE MIDDLE SCHOOL <br />Present: Absent: Also Present: <br />Sheila Arnold Ken Marsters Gus Frederick <br />Kim Whitney <br />Linda Young <br />Terrie Cook <br />Pat Riley <br />Joleen Shultzabarger <br />I. Opening of Meeting - Sheila Arnold opened the meeting at 6:39 PM. Joleen <br />Shultzabarger, new Leisure Services Advisory Council Member, was introduced to those <br />present. <br />II. Minutes - Linda Young made motion to approve the Minutes of the Meeting of <br />October 1, 1996. Terrie Cook seconded. Motion carried. <br />III. Communications - <br />Gus explained an incident that occurred at Kids Klub concerning an alleged verbal <br />abuse that occurred. Bob Whritenour has been advised of this situation. Terrie Cook <br />asked if this person had a background check. Gus explained that she did. Gus mentioned <br />that the Office For Children stopped by today and had some really nice things to say about <br />the program. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS <br />1. Calendar - Gus met with principals with regard to calendars. Gloria Dube is <br />doing an excellent job keeping programs posted. Principals like to have a copy a week in <br />advance. Any scheduling taking place during the school day has been returned for school <br />scheduling. Gus has questions regarding calculations figuring out hourly charges in <br />addition to the 4 -hour time charges that are indicated. Gus would like to go over the fee <br />schedule. Gloria Dube is working with Mike Pietrowski to work out reserving video and <br />audio equipment and when to let him know. We are working with a tickler file to keep <br />track of equipment requests. <br />Gus hopes we will have use of High School some time by January. Some of the programs <br />we are trying to develop would require use of the High School. The 7th, 8th, and 9th <br />grade teams may have to use Middle School gym for basketball because facility may not be <br />ready. <br />2. Rec. Plan - Kim Whitney updated everyone on the Rec Plan and passed out an outline <br />of how it is being set up. <br />Gus looking at landfill area for perhaps a Par 3. Approximately 13 acres. Gus <br />mentioned GED program we run now for Adult and Pre -GED - $111,000.00 Grant for <br />Cape Cod Literacy Council. We are one of 5 sites. Now $207,000 Grant through <br />Department of Education. We are trying to establish where classroom site would be. Our <br />instructor from last year is now at the high school, and we are looking for another GED <br />instructor for this program. Gus will find out what criteria is necessary for instructor. <br />3. "Friends of - Application will be put into the State by Linda Murtha. <br />
