• MASHPEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE
JULY 20, 1993
MASHPEE TOWN HALL
Present: Peter Dinizio, Linda Murtha, Paul Griffin, Merry Sue
Ahlgren , Joe Polito, Janice Mills, Bill Martiros, Bob Mills, Bill
Jones, Steve Greelish, Greg Taylor, Tom Fudala
MINUTES
Mr. Polito made a motion to accept the minutes of July 13th,
1993 . Ms. Ahlgren seconded the motion . All members were in
favor.
COMMITTEE DISCUSSION
The Committee is in agreement with Dr. DeMoura's academic program
list as presented at the last meeting with the addition of a
Library.
The Committee discussed the list presented by Leisure Services
(Gus Fredericks) and which items should be included in the
planning stages:
- Child Care Center. Mr. Griffin stated if it's not in the scope
of a high school , the Committee should not be concerned with it.
• Ms. Mills stated its primary use should be academic, as a course
to offer in child care. There is also the concern that child
care providers may feel their business is being threatened; this
is a main source of income to many mothers in town.
An after school program is a separate function which could be
handled in the school by Leisure Services. This does not add to
the space requirements.
The Committee decided to see what it might cost and then can
discuss it further.
- Teen Center- the Committee' s initial thought was not to include
it. Greg Taylor stated presently they are only looking at site
development, is it appropriate for as many uses as we may end up
having, i .e. another elementary school . There are two different
issues, the site and the school building.
The Committee will ask it be included but not as part of the
school building .
Chairman Dinizio explained the architect is required to give a
cost estimate. This Committee will decide what is to be
presented at town meeting and the town can vote to except all of
it or nothing . This Committee will offer what we feel is needed
by the town and is cost effective. This is what the Selectmen
have asked of this Committee.
Swimming Pool - should be included.
• - Therapeutic Pool - should be included.
Gym. The Committee agreed they have to be careful not to load
1
