issues.
Stone is disputing whether the gym floor has a problem. Joel explained we felt the expansion
joints in the floor were opening up excessively and also thought the boards were cupping on the
edges. Stone hired a lab to test it. The testing agency issued a report saying the wood is not
cupping and the spaces are natural for this type of installation and should close and open
seasonally. We have not yet prepared a counter opinion.
Paul said we should get an investigation done. This is a sizeable amount of money for the floor.
Tom Wren said there are 3 incidences were the external masonry is cracking. Stone brought in
Simpson and Gumpert to do an analysis.
Paul added that Stone wanted SMMA to re-check the structural load. We told them they would
not, they can have someone investigate it.
Joe asked if there are any concerns with the roof leaking?
Jim said there were a few that were fixed and one they are having a hard time finding. It is still
under warranty.
Dr. DeMoura sent the Committee a memo regarding his concerns about the maintenance
contractor for the high school. The contractor has been complaining that he cannot perform here
and is talking about charging the town. When can he begin work here?
Paul said he has been told to wait until June 1, 1997. If he has out of pocket expenses due to the
delays,he should submit them and we can add them to the pile of back charges to Stone. What
would he be doing in February anyway for grounds maintenance?
Joel presented a change order to PA Landers contract for$9,479 for 3 items:
-temporary stone for the waste water treatment plant.
-catch basin on Old Barnstable Rd and 151.
-relocate fire hydrant.
** Paul made a motion to forward to the Selectmen for their approval change order#1
for PA Landers for$9,479. Joe seconded the motion. All members were in favor 5-
0**
The Committee discussed the request from Don Cook for a modem to provide remote access for
the HVAC system. Jim explained that Don has been dealing with Johnson Controls.
Paul said this may be our own fault. We should have stated that whoever gets the unit ventilators
had to provide a microprocessor intergrateable with the other units. One is a DOS based and the
other a windows based system.
Joel suggested that SMMA look at this issue. Paul will talk to Don Cook about it.
Future Storage of town project files: Tom Wren explained that Dianne Rommelmeyer wanted an
estimate of the size needed for file storage and where the long term storage will be. Certain files
have to be kept for 7 years.
Paul said after 2 years we can drop down to the minimum needed to meet State requirements.
Until that time they should remain at this building. A lot of the Clerk's files will go to Don
Cook. Once there is no pending litigation, most of the files can be gotten rid of.
