_ (S.C. 9/5/07)
SCHOOL COMMITTEE STATEMENT REGARDING CONSISTENT ATTENDANCE
The School Committee believes that school attendance is critical to student achievement.
As a result, we strongly discourage the taking of family vacations when school is in session.
We believe this to be detrimental to your child's progress. In situations where a vacation
must be taken when school is in session, we ask that the school principal be notified.
Our experience has shown that providing assignments to be done during a vacation is
not productive. Such school work undermines the quality of the vacation and is generally
not a productive educational exercise. For this reason, we do not require teachers to design
any out of school activities for students while on vacation. Students are held accountable
to make up any school work missed when they return.
PARENTS/GUARDIANS AND VISITORS
Upon arrival at the school's main doors, a visitor must ring the buzzer for admittance.
Once the buzzer sounds, the visitor will enter the door on the right and must report
immediately to the main office. Sign in is required and a visitor's badge will be issued.
• When leaving the visitor will sign out in the main office and return the visitor's badge.
• Classes are in session from 8:50am until 3:20pm. Parents/guardians may make
appointments to see the teacher either before school, of after school or during a
designated time determined by parents/guardians and teacher. As impromptu visits
disrupt the learning process of all students in the classroom, we require
parents/guardians to make appointments. We prohibit spontaneous visits to the
classroom once school is in session.
• Any unauthorized parent/guardian/visitor; i.e., without badges, will be considered
trespassing. Unauthorized persons without badges will be stopped by school personnel
and asked to report to the office. Anyone refusing will be considered a trespasser and
appropriate action will be taken.
• Visitors wishing to observe a specific class must make arrangements with the principal
and the teacher at least a day prior to the visit.
• Students canngt bring friends to school since the school cannot assume responsibility
for the friends."
• When a parent/guardian drops off school-related items, the items must be left at the
Main Office and must be clearly labeled with the child's name and the teacher's name.
Parents/guardians will not be allowed to personally bring items to the classroom. This
interrupts educational time, takes the teacher away from the children, interrupts the
classroom activity and presents a safety issue for the children and staff.
• Animals are not permitted excepting for very specific purposes such as for science
class. Classroom pets are not permitted. Also, please keep pets at home when
transporting your child to and from school. Pets should not be in school or on school
grounds due to safety reasons.
STUDENTS ATTENDING MASHPEE SCHOOLS MUST
BE MASHPEE RESIDENTS
Upon registration, parents/guardians must provide required proofs of residency.
14
