✓ WALKING FIELD TRIPS
During the school year the teachers may take the students to the Quashnet School, the Mashpee
Public Library, the Mashpee Commons, the Mashpee Senior Center, the Mashpee Boy's and
Girl's Club or other organizations within walking distance of the school. Please give permission
for your child to visit these areas under the supervision of teachers and chaperones by signing the
Walking Field Trip Permission Release form at the back of this handbook. Your child cannot
participate in these trips without your permission.
STUDENT PLACEMENT
We believe that the Mashpee Public Schools should be providing every child with the best
possible learning environment. There are many variables to consider in the placement process
from year to year. It is important to us that every child is successful. Thus, placement must be
done by the professional staff. Be assured that each child's specific needs will certainly be
considered.
BIRTHDAY PARTIES AND PLAYDATES
• Staff members are not permitted to distribute phone numbers and/or addresses of students.
• The school is not permitted to distribute personal invitations to children for birthday parties,
play dates, etc.
• If a party or play date is postponed, the school is not responsible for contacting parties
involved. Personal business of this nature cannot be conducted during school hours.
• Students may distribute invitations only if all members of the class are included.
GOODIES FOR CELEBRATIONS
• Please refer to the Wellness Policy at the back of the handbook to determine acceptable snack
options.
• All deliveries to the classroom will be made by office personnel only.
• Goodies coming into school must be store bought and labeled with ingredients.
• Peanut-safe and other food allergy classrooms may operate differently. Teachers will notify
parents/guardians in particular classrooms at the beginning of each school year of protocols in
those rooms for everyone's safety.
SAFETY DRILLS
When the fire alarm sounds, we require every adult and student in the school to respond.
Students are to:
• stop all talking
• follow teacher instructions and close all classroom windows and doors
while exiting
• pass in single file and walk quickly and quietly to the designated exit
• remain with their classroom teachers during the entire fire drill unless
otherwise instructed.
CODE RED DRILLS
Emergency drills to keep children safe indoors (requiring classroom lockdowns) will be
performed a minimum of twice yearly. The children will be instructed by the classroom
teachers of this procedure. It is similar to a fire drill - stop talking, go to a safe place in the
classroom designated by the teacher, follow teacher instruction, wait for signal to resume
activity throughout the classroom and building.
17
