He stated that the need now is' to <br /> brainstorm ideas. The council should discuss the positives, <br /> needs, etc. <br /> a. More adult assistants in the classroom. <br /> b. Parents in own their own child' s classroom. We should <br /> include or allow parents to work within their child' s <br /> classroom. Several members of the council stated their <br /> concerns/desires to work in their child' s-class: In the'._' <br /> past, it has occasionally caused problems . Ms . Cragwell <br /> suggested that one way to lessen problems was to have a <br /> training program for the volunteers, to role play, discuss <br /> discipline issues and policies, to interact with the child' s <br /> teacher (teacher should be involved in the training <br /> program) , etc. , so when a parent visits child' s class, the <br /> parent would be prepared to deal with issues . Ms . Blackwood <br /> stated that only two towns on the Cape do not allow parents <br /> to volunteer in their child' s classroom. We need these <br /> volunteers . Ms . Dinizio stated that parent volunteers <br /> should realize that they are there for, alllthechi;ldren s <br /> Ms. Reynolds stated they should also consider'etea&hers'; <br /> conderns. Ms. Mills stated that there are many pros and <br /> cons on the issue . . One possibility is to state, as a <br /> requirement, that the visits would have to be scheduled, the <br /> volunteer parent would have to complete the training program <br /> before the parent could volunteer, the volunteer parent <br /> would have to volunteer to help every other time with other <br /> classes. She stated that we should develop and follow rigid <br /> guidelines . Ms .
