t
committee. It is possible to request resignations from committee members who regularly
• do not attend the meetings. However, it is still the State requirement that there be eleven
members on the committee. Jeri Smith stated her concern that if the State is asked to
reduce the required number of members on the committee, the State might decide to
abolish the committee altogether.
Jeralyn Smith asked that members who are not committed to attending the meetings
tender their resignations and appoint replacements for their place on the committee. Mike
Cardeiro reminded the committee that Perry Ellis has voiced his interest in becoming a
member of the Committee.
Bill Martiros asked the question as to why the Committee needs representation from
Falmouth, Sandwich, Barnstable as well as Mashpee, since the State Park is located in
Mashpee, and the majority of the issues regarding the State Park are related to Mashpee.
Jeralyn Smith explained that it is a statewide park, and there are people from all those
towns who use the State Park every year, and therefore they have a right to representation
on the committee.
Lance Lambros stated his opinion that he would like to have the committee continue to
have eleven active members, rather than decrease the number of members. Lance stated
further that he could be helpful in carrying through the legislature any committee changes
that the members agreed upon, and did not feel that the State would abolish the committee
as a result of those requests.
Jeralyn Smith asked whether there was anyone on the committee who would care to serve
as Chairman, since she has been in the position for several years. There were no
volunteers for the position. Jeralyn Smith agreed to continue as Chairman, and Frank
Connelly agreed to stay on as Vice Chairman.
OTHER BUSINESS
The Memorial Plaque. Jeralyn Smith reported that Ben Lofchie had talked to someone at
Baker Monument, the company that made the memorial plaque, who agreed to replace the
vandalized plaque for 50% of retail. Lance Lambros stated that Baker Monument was now
out of business. Frank Connelly stated that the company, whose ownership had changed
hands, still had the original plaque they had prepared, which had a misspelled name, and
was willing to give it to the Committee but would not pay for the installation. Lance
Lambros recommended that the committee contact Jack Cramer to determine who did the
original installation. The committee has no budget, but will figure out a way to pay for
installation of the replacement plaque.
NEXT MEETING
The next meeting of the Committee was scheduled for Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at
5:00 PM, at Mashpee Town Hall.
As there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:30 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Ina 0'Recordintjb
ecretary
2
