Board of Selectmen
Minutes
January 24, 2000
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
John's Pond Estates Association—Various Issues:
Michael Forde,President of the John's Pond Estates Association was
present to discuss various issues of concern with members of the Board of
Selectmen.
Items of concern include; the drainage on both Sunset and Pond Circles
and the degradation of the little pond and channel. It was noted that the
shallow waters at each end of the channel, and within middle locations
restrict the flow of water.
The Association of John's Pond has proposed that the area be dredged to
allow adequate water flow. The area may turn into a mosquito swamp if
corrective measures are not obtained.
Robert Sherman, Conservation Agent indicated that although the
Conservation Commission cannot advocate for the association, the office
will supply names of contact personnel from the Division of Marine
Fisheries and relevant consultants to assist with the project proposal. It
was noted that the subject site location is a mapped rare species area pond.
Mr. Forde requested a motion from the Selectmen to allow John's Pond
Estates Association to meet with the Waterways Commission to consider a
dredge plan for the channel and John's Pond Estates.
Motion made by Selectman Blythe indicating that the Board of
Selectmen is not against the above referenced proposal.
Motion seconded by Selectman Cahalane.
VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0.
To address the issue of drainage, Greg Taylor, Director of Public Works
noted that the character and hills of John's Pond were present before the
subdivision. The developer constructed the road 2 '/-3' above the level of
the pond, and many)ots drain into the back corner. Storms drains above
the water level will help to prevent flooding.
