8
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
January 24, 2000
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
John's Pond Estates Association—Various Issues: (continued),
Additional issues of concern include the level of the pond depths across
the middle of the pond. There is a small sandbar across the middle, and in
many areas over 200 yards from shore, boat engines hit bottom. Mr.
Forde requested that a survey of water depths be conducted across the
hazardous area, and consider possible dredging for public safety.
In response, Mr. Ellis recommended the association consider use of a
small crane dredge that may be more efficient. It was noted that the
County dredge is quite large for the area.
The shallow water levels of John's Pond remain a concern of the
association. Mr. Forde suggested the Town consider regulating the locks
on the south side that creates the Quashnet River and on the northeast side
that creates the Child's River.
The Board agreed to contract the Division of Marine Fisheries to discuss
the possibility of raising the water levels of John's Pond as described.
Mr. Sherman indicated that an RFP process is underway for the redesign
of the flume and fish ladder, which may assist in future water
management.
Recess: 7:55 p.m. Meeting Resumed: 8:05 p.m.
COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE:
Fire Station Building Committee Report:
Joyce Mason, Chairman of the Fire Station Building Committee indicated
that the filed sub bids were received last week for the project proposal.
The committee will open the general bids on Wednesday, February 2,
2000. The matter will be on the Selectmen's agenda of
Monday, February 7, 2000 for contract approval.
Future Agenda Topic:
Pending evaluations, Selectmen's review.
