2 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> April 12, 2004 �I <br /> COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE: <br /> School Budget: <br /> For disclosure,the Board indicated that they are in agreement with the <br /> School Committee and Finance Committee in support of a line item <br /> School budget of$16,984,751 for fiscal year 2005. <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Lynda Wadsworth—MMR Annual Report: <br /> Representatives from the Massachusetts Military Reservation(MMR) <br /> were present to update the Board of Selectmen on environmental program <br /> activities at the base. <br /> The Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence's Installation <br /> Restoration Program gave an update on the progress of the ongoing clean- <br /> up of groundwater contamination. Representatives of the Army <br /> Environmental Center's Impact Area Ground Water Study Program <br /> • discussed the progress of the program's investigation and clean-up <br /> activity. <br /> The Massachusetts National Guard Environmental& Readiness Center <br /> also summarized the Annual State of the Reservation Report which <br /> documents the integration of military training and environmental <br /> protection. A copy was presented to the Selectmen for review. <br /> The Board requested further information regarding Ashumet Pond and the <br /> process of incorporating iron particles into the pond. Concern was <br /> expressed towards water quality and the coloration of the water. The pond <br /> was deemed safe by the MMR for all recreational purposes with the <br /> advisory for mercury as detailed last year. <br /> • <br />
