-3-
Bruce: I wouldn't be filling in over that after I took out the peat and replace it
sand. For instance, the septic system itself has to be four feet above the water and
then there is another 2 or 3 feet. .
Charles: You have about 2 feet more.
Bruce: So we would have to bring in about 2 feet of fill.
Dorothy: If you put pilings in for this house, how are you going to prevent sinking in
with the weight of the house?
Bruce: That is up to the engineer. They would have to do a test pour maybe 40 feet down=
and if they need a 40 foot piling, that is what they would have to use.
Pauline: I will take a stand. I will say it is unbuildable. How does the rest of the
Board feel?
Dicks I think it is unbuildable. I don't think 1t is very practical.
Ken: If the guy wants to absorb the expense, I would say it is legally buildable.
Charles: It would be an expensive proposition, but I think that it could be done.
Pauline: What I am getting at is that he is going to drive pilings and he has to go down
40 feet. What is that going to do to that whole Island?
Charles: Nothing much. With sand around it, it wouldn't move much.
Bruce: If all the rest of this is coarse sand, they could go with 15 feet and another
six above. That is a 21, maybe a 22 foot piling. But what I am getting at, is it a
buildable lot barring the cost?
Paulines I haven't gone down to look at it. I do not know what the terrain or what the
growth on there is or whether it has been filled already.
Bruce: It has been filled because that is where all the peat came from.
Pauline: What did Mrs. Anderson recommend?
Bruce: It is definitely not a buildable lot as is because of all the peat.
Charles: Excluding the expense of the method you would have to use, it can be done.
Bruce: From talking with Mrs. Anderson, I am 100% sure I am not going to go through with
it. If I did go through with it, would this Board give me a hard time?
Pauline: That is your decision= not ours, as to whether you want to take the risk or gamble.
When you submit a Notice of Intent on what you plan to do, then we make a decision on it.
Ken: Are you within 100 feet of water?
Charles: The house would be within 100 feet of the water.
Bruce: The house would be within 100 feet, but the septic wouldn't. The septic would be
maybe 130 or 140 feet.
Pauline: It would have to come before us.
