-4-
SEh43-117 Abutters:
Johh T. and Eva K. Breyer Mr. William Sammartino
76 Baystate Rd. , Weston and 38 Hamlet Avenue
Popponesset Island Rd. , Mashpee Woonsocket, Rhode Island 02895
Petitioner: Dick Morse Eugene A. Stillman, et ux
356 Stratton Court
Engineer: Mr. Robert A. Braman Wycloff, New Jersey 07581
Pauline: Notice of Intent is read.; The Breyer's wish to construct an 82 foot pier in
Popponesset Creek.
Dick Morse: I am representing Mr. Breyer as his attorney. I think Mr. Braman should
describe the dock Mr. Breyer intends to build.
Mr. Braman: Shows a copy of the plan. Gives return receipts of the notice he sent to
the abutters to Chairperson. This dock is a rather simple dock. The fixed part of the
structure itself 1s 4 feet wide and 60 feet long. Then it has a 3 foot x 12 foot ramp
and a float. What we have tried to show you on this plan are the existing docks and
piers in the area. There are three directly across the Popponesset Creek and there is
one on either side of the proposed pier. We made a survey which indicated the dredged
portion of the channel which was dredged back in the late '50s and indicates the depth
of the water there. These elevations are based on mean lox water as being zero so every-
thing is in relation to low tide. The top of the dock would be at elevation 5. You can
see on the plan some of the other docks are 6, 6, y, 4 and so forth. So it is more or
less in keeping with the adjacent ones. We have also indicated the distance back from
-the edge of the dredged channel both to the proposed dock and the existing ones. Twenty
feet is the proposed one and the others vary. The closest is 12.
Wayne: These have been actually surveyed out?
Mr. Braman: This is an actual survey, right. The lot itself has been previously surveyed.
The bounds are on the ground so we were able to establish the lines easily. Everything
here is by actual location.
Dick: Did they take out the floats?
Mr. Braman: Everything is in except that float which we have indicated with dash lines.
These other floats are in there.
Ken: How are you putting your pilings in?
Mr. Braman: These piles would be driven. All the material has been salt treated, but not
with creosote. If you notice on the letter which we received from DEQE, they made a note
that no creosote is allowed to protect. We have been designing piers using salt treated
material for a number of years. It seems to work out equally as well from a longevity
point of view as the creosote does and it is much cleaner.
Ken: How do you drive those pilings -- from a barge or from the shore?
Mr. Braman: This particular job could be done from the shore. This lot is presently un-
developed. There is no house on it as yet. I understand Mr. Breyer intends to build.
But it could also be done from a barge.
Ken: Either way?
Mr. Braman: Yes.
