-5-
Ken: If they dredge that river again, do you think those docks will block anything?
Mr. Braman: No, I do not think so. Sixty feet is what was dredged originally and it
does have side slips that come up from that. This was a very controversial project.
Thiswas a dredging survey back in 1959 (shows area). I doubt it would ever be dredged
wider than 60 feet.
Wayne: Probably more for maintenance than anything else. What salt process do you use?
Mr. Braman: This is a pressure process and it is called Chromated Copper Arsenate (CCA).
Dick: Can you tell us more about that?
Mr. Braman: It is a water-borne preservative. It is put in under pressure so that it
penetrates completely through the wood. Usually we put 2Z lbs. of preservative per cubic
feet in the piling and anywhere from six-tenths to one pound in things like the bracing of
deck. Obviously, the piling gets the use.
Ken: What is the longevity of the piling?
Mr. Braman: It could be up to 50 years.
Charles: Would the four sets of piles disturb any shellfish beds there?
Mr. Braman: I don't think so. I don't know what there is for shellfish there. I haven't
had any conversation with the Shellfish Officer.
-
Pauline: Would you get in touch with Mr. Robert Courtemanche and have him give you an idea
of what is in there?
Mr. Braman: What do you want me to ask him -- if there is any shellfish in there?
Pauline: Right and they would have to be moved at your expense.
Ken: What is the shoreline right there -- is it marsh or is it sand?
Mr. Braman: No, there really isn't any marsh although there is some grass right along the
edges. It is not really a sandy beach. The banking drops down; it is all just grass.
Charles: If you come over land, you should be able to stay away from the grass edge and
not destroy it.
Pauline: Any other questions?
No.
SEN43-118
Richard P. Morse, Jr.
Whippoorwill Circle, Mashpee
Engineer: Mr. Robert A. Braman
Pauline: Notice of Intent is read. Mr. Morse is planning to construct pier on Great River
in accordance with plans on file with the commission.
