'f <br /> The Park Committee felt it highly appropriate to give a boost to this area of town. They want to <br /> create something lasting and high quality which can be an anchor for the whole historic district. <br /> The HDSC i� a critical part of these plans. The park committee is hoping to get the input and <br /> spggestions of the HDSC and then to count on their active support. <br /> There is a'cost estimate for the plan, as shown, of$130,000. The committee hopes to go to the <br /> private sector for donations but it will also require town funds. <br /> JQe Polito asked if the re-deign oy the intersection into an island or roundabout, could <br /> accommodate a Chestnut tree? Hopefully a chestnut tree can be incorporated. <br /> Jqe asked if getting across the street will be a problem? <br /> Bob explained that two crosswalks will be established, one at the existing bike path crosswalk <br /> apd tie other between town hall And the Archives building. <br /> The Comprehensive Plan calls for a feasibility study of a roundabout. The town plans to hire a <br /> traffic enginFer to evaluate alternatives for the intersection <br /> Morgan Peters said, as a historian, he would downplay the revolutionary war because <br /> "domesticated Africans and savages" were not allowed to fight. <br /> Earl Mills said actually Mashpee gave more to the revolutionary war per capita than any other <br /> tgwn in new England. <br /> Tom said Russell Peters also thought there should be something specific about the revolutionary <br /> war. <br /> Earl ash ed if the USO stone will be moved here? <br /> Bob said this design is sparsely done_ The intent is to have a long lasting impact; give a gift to <br /> succeeding generations. It was set up this way to accommodate additional small memorials; it <br /> cin be added to over the years. <br /> E,arl asked when we start? <br /> Bob said the Board of Selectmen voted to support an article for May town meeting for seed <br /> rqoney. The Committee would like to have a dedication on Veterans Day 2000, approximately <br /> ore year from now. <br /> We need pe9ple to stand up at town meeting to support this project. <br /> Earl asked if the Committee is in a position yet to accept contributions? <br /> Bob said there is a meeting set up for December 131'to have a brainstorming session for <br /> optreach, to form groups to get out to the community to seek support for donations and support <br /> fqr pieces of the park, i.e. benches, flag pole etc. <br /> New Seabury Women's Club has said they will make a donation toward the plantings. <br /> The$eautification Council is funding the elms trees. <br /> Joanne Ferragamo has been meeting with various groups, first to make them aware of the project <br /> apd z ext she will go back seeking support. <br /> 2 <br />
