5 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> February 27, 2017 <br /> Public Comment: (continued) <br /> Suzanna Huskins a 2011 graduate of technical school program indicated she was involved in the in <br /> early childhood education program and is very passionate about a technical school education. Ms. <br /> Huskins indicated the Cape is like a small town, if you take away the technical school you would take <br /> away all of our family owned businesses and if you care about the place that you live you would be <br /> taking away a community. <br /> Thirteen year old Jahaal Abel indicated he comes from a family of fifteen children. His siblings that <br /> have and are attending the Cape Cod Technical School in his opinion are doing the best. Young Abel <br /> stated he plans on attending the technical school as well, and asked the Board of Selectmen what they <br /> are willing to sacrifice for the success of the children. <br /> The Board of Selectmen expressed appreciation to the citizens and students who came out to tell their <br /> stories in support of this matter. As with all public comment topics, the matter was taken under <br /> advisement. <br /> Approval of various applications: <br /> Special Event Application, Naukabout Beer Company, Peter Murner: <br /> Beach and Back Half Marathon, RaceWire: <br /> Beer Tent—The Pour Guys, LLC: <br /> Peter Murner, owner of Naukabout Beer Company, Lake Avenue, Mashpee was before the Board to <br /> request approval of a Special Events Application for the first Annual Beach and Back Half Marathon <br /> planned to be held on Sunday, June 11, 2017. <br /> Colin Henry was in attendance representing RaceWire, LLC to discuss the specifics of the race <br /> scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. near the intersection of Donna's Lane in the vicinity of Mashpee <br /> Commons. The runners will flow south to the beach, and return to the Donna's Lane site location. <br /> Approximately 1200-1500 runners are expected to register and complete the race by 10:30 a.m. <br /> It was noted the Naukabout Beer Company is assisting in the production of this event. Mr. Murner <br /> indicated he expects to open the brewery at the former Flume Restaurant location before the start of the <br /> summer season. Space for the half marathon event will be rented from Mashpee Commons at the <br /> Green across from the Library in a controlled area similar to the Oktoberfest setup. <br /> All applicable regulatory officials have signed off on the Special Events Application with requirements <br /> stipulated by the DPW, Inspections and Board of Health. Late filed approvals were received from the <br /> Police and Fire Departments with conditions. A certificate of liquor liability was secured from The <br /> Pour Guys, LLC, the caterers for the community event intended to benefit the Mashpee Boosters Club. <br /> Board of Selectmen <br />
