Finance Committee
March 26 , 1986
Page 2 .
lythe said he would like to see the engineering work stay outside
the town . By hiring different engineering firms with the expertise
in a certain project , the project will be done right the first
time . You also have recourse if you hire a firm . The Finance
Committee was in agreement that the new engineering position was
not a good buy for the town and they would rather hire different
engineering firms with expertise in the project .
The Custodial position would be a full-time position and
he would do nothing but clean buildings . The salary of this
position would be $19 , 441 with benefits , set by union . The
Finance Committee felt that this was a lot of money for a
maintenance position . Ernie stated that the town buildings are
in constant use and the people who are in thea refuse to do
any care or maintenance - of their' building . Chairman Blythe
stated that he felt people who have the building should take -care
of daily maintenance such as dusting and emptying the trash barrels ,
the genera-1 day-,to-day care . Ernie noted that the precedent has
been set anal the people juste pest to have everything dome for
them . The Finance Committee recommended putting a hold on the
full-time custodian position till the new library is built . It
was agreed to establish a 15-hour position to clean the five
town buildings .
Ernie- explain-ed the Article on the Warrant concerning boat
ramp reconstruction for ockway Bay , Great River and Pirates Cove .
He must raise the Full amount , estimated to be $ , o , and the
state would reimburse one-half and the town would work -off their
share .
$4 , 00,0 for DPW furniture is another article . This would be
the first year of a three-year plan to get some new furniture in
the new DPW facility . At present they are using furniture from
the old DPW.
The article requesting $39000 for a used van for the new
custodian was dropped . This would not be needed for a part-time
position .
The Finance Committee agreed to the $5 , 000 as "seed money"
to get the holiday lighting program started . This would be for
the acquisition of some displays , ground wiring ,, proper plugs ,
all weather hookups and lights . The Finance Committee did not
agree with the subsequent article requesting $2 , 000 for installation
storage and turnover of equipment . Fred Blythe felt that businesses
in town would donate money for the display . He felt that the
town would get the display started , but it was up to the business
community to keep it going . The article for $2 , 000 was dropped .
The article requesting funds to re--surface Quinnaquisset
Avenue , $130 , 000 , was dropped from the warrant .
