4 <br /> Community Preservation Committee <br /> Minutes <br /> December 13, 2016 <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS <br /> Public Comment: (continued) <br /> With regards to the CPC appointment for at-large membership, Tony Pizzo indicated he <br /> previously submitted a letter of interest to serve on the Community Preservation Committee and <br /> then composed an additional letter to accompany his letter of interest. Due to technicalities, Mr. <br /> Pizzo was unable to print the letter. Mr. Pizzo verbally highlighted the information contained in <br /> his cover letter. In referring to the communication Mr. Pizzo stated he is motivated to become a <br /> CPC member. Mr. Pizzo indicated he has been a Mashpee resident for the past ten years after <br /> initially residing in Vermont. On a personal and professional level Mr. Pizzo is involved in the <br /> research and development of clean alternative energy, low impact living, forest preservation and <br /> has a long history of association with animal,nature and science programs. Mr. Pizzo also <br /> indicated he is able to bring forth a considerable amount of varied viewpoints and would offer <br /> his knowledge and research to the CPC. In closing,Mr. Pizzo added he has always been <br /> involved in his local community, and has a keen interest is becoming a member of the <br /> Community Preservation Committee. <br /> Tom Fudala,the Town Planner indicated he was in attendance to express support for both <br /> applications submitted by the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge. Mr. Fudala stated he has been <br /> involved with the Refuge since its inception and agreed the trails and mapping is in are need of <br /> improvement. Mr. Fudala stated the projects are a great idea for the Town of Mashpee. The <br /> Historical Commission is also in support of the applications as proposed with Community <br /> Preservation Act funding. <br /> Friends of the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge—Wildlife Refuge Hista : <br /> MaryKay Fox, a volunteer member of the Friends of the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge <br /> (FMNWR), a non-profit organization in support of the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge and <br /> the Refuge Partners as in attendance to review the Wildlife Refuge History Project,the Refuge <br /> Brochure and Trail Mapping Project with the Community Preservation Committee. Ms. Fox <br /> enthusiastically discussed the Mashpee Wildlife Refuge History from the Past to the Future <br /> project in honor of the 20«'anniversary of the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge. As a result of <br /> the lack of documentation for the Refuge's history,the Friends initiated the project. <br /> Ms. Fox explained the brochures printed in 1997 are scarce and in need of updating. A CPA <br /> award of$10,130 would allow the Friends to secure a knowledgeable writer/editor and a graphic <br /> designer to ensure an accurate product is captured for this regional history. Ms. Fox made note <br /> of the recent book published by Rosemary Burns Mashpee in Words and Pictures and other <br /> books including the Son of Mashpee under consideration for use as a template to depict correct <br /> and true documentation for this project. <br />
