6
Community Preservation Committee
Minutes
December 13, 2016
Friends of the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge—Trail Ma s: (continued)
Ms. Fox indicated the Friends of the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge are planning on
requesting funding from the Town of Falmouth CPC for this project. If the Refuge brochure and
trail map guide is supported, the cost would be reduced by one half. It is believed the success of
the publication will engage greater public use of Refuge as well as Mashpee trails. It was agreed
if this project is supported by the CPC;the brochure would acknowledge the use of Community
Preservation funds contributing to this project.
Letters of support for the project proposal were identified from the Planning Department,
Conservation Commission, U.S. Fish&Wildlife Service, Town of Mashpee GIS Coordinator,
the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve/Department of Conservation Reserve and
from the Mashpee Historical Commission.
Ms. Fox indicated if the projects are fully funded, the total cost would be reduced by$1,430.
Trail Mapping $15,230
History Project $10,130
Total $25,360
Minus $1,430
Revised Total: $23,930 (allocation per town=$11,965)
Ms. Fox noted she has met with Carol Sutherland of the Falmouth Community Preservation
Committee, and there is positive response in terms of eligibility for this project and in terms of
the regional funding approach. The Friends of the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge intend to
submit an application to the Falmouth Community Preservation Committee in request of funding
for both projects.
Members of the Mashpee Community Preservation Committee agreed to remit communication to
the Town of Falmouth CPC recommending this board vote frilly to not delay the project and to
advise the Mashpee CPC fully supports the regional approach with an allocation from the Town
of Falmouth to fund these projects. It was noted the Partners of the Mashpee Wildlife Refuge
include the following;
Mashpee Wampanoag Indian Tribal Council
Orenda Wildlife Land Trust
U.S. Fish&Wildlife Service
Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve/MA Department of Conservation&
Recreation
MA Division of Fisheries and Wildlife
Town of Mashpee/Mashpee Conservation Commission
Town of Falmouth/Falmouth Conservation Commission
