As noted;
Article 18—-Si&Obstruction:
Mr. Fudala explained the new section of the bylaw will provide improved visibility at
intersections. It was noted that Town Counsel gave input into this article to promote public
safety at all street intersections and corner lots in all districts. No sign(except signed erected by
the Town), fence, wall, hedge or other visual obstruction, shall be maintained, installed or
erected at a height of more than two and one half feet above the plane of the established grades
of the street within a triangular area on a corner lot formed by the street layout lines 20' distant
from their point of intersection,or in the case of a rounded corner,the point of intersection of
such lines projected.
This zoning bylaw was created as a result of a specific problem on Mashpee Neck Road with the
construction of a fence. Several residents brought this to the attention of the Building
Commissioner. There was input from the Town Planner and the Town Manager with respect to
this regard. As a result of the layout, Town Counsel recommended a distance of 20' to be used
as a starting point with recommendations thereof to be made in the future. The Town Planner
advised a distance of 25' from the point of the intersection. This zoning enforcement is not
retroactive.
