3
Capital Improvement Program Committee
Minutes
January 28, 2016
Recreation:
.,,,.FY2020 Feasibili tudy_ 5,000:
In fiscal year 2020,the Recreation Department capital budget request includes the
appropriation of funding to conduct a Feasibility Study for the purpose of developing a
comprehensive plan for the construction of a Recreation/Community Center for the Town
of Mashpee. $6.5milli. on Recreation/Community Center is planned in FY2022.
With the re-establishment of the Human Services Department to Town Hall, the former
Hnan Service Building at the Heritage Park Recreation facility is being reconditioned to
serve as the new recreation Office. With available funding appropriated at the October
2015 Town Meeting, this building previously considered for the Department of Natural
Resources (DNR)has been upgraded for the Recreation Department. Currently, the plain
floor is complete and work is ongoing to finish the basement area.
The site was previously under consideration for the DNR, but the location and the design
did not fit the needs of the Shellfish Department. If the creation of a Department of
Natural Resources is approved by the May Town Meeting, the new DNR Office will be
established in the lower level of the Town Hall facility to interconnect with the other
related departments in this location.
In terms of operations, it is deemed appropriate to locate the Recreation Office to the
Heritage Parr site location. Furnishings and office supplies are scheduled to be relocated
to the new facility in Enid-February,
