Capital Improvement Program Committee
Minutes
February 5, 2015
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS: (continued)
Also proposed for replacement is the 2006 Chevrolet 3500 1 -Ton dump truck. It
is one of four dump trucks used on a daily basis by the DPW. Repairs have
become recurring, and costly. The bed of the truck is significantly rusted and in
need of replacement. The cost to replace this vehicle is $76,300.
Ms. Laurent indicated that all larger truck bodies are proposed for replacement
with more durable stainless steel beds.
In fiscal year 2016 the DPW has proposed to replace the 763 Bobcat with a Terex
Track Loader with a V -plow, or similar equipment. The Track Loader would be
utilized to clear the sidewalks and bikepaths more efficiently. With a standard
attachment, the Track Loader would be used throughout the year for other uses.
It was noted the Town has over 6 miles of paths and sidewalks with more
projected. Currently the walkways and bikepaths are cleared with a self-propelled
walk behind snow blower or with a Bobcat bucket too wide for sidewalks. The
cost for the equipment is $35,000.
PLANNING & CONSTRUCTION:
Flooring Replacement - $50,000
Replacement of Flooring in Various Buildings - $50,000
Continued annual funding is requested to replace the flooring, carpet or VCT at
various Town buildings. The project proposes to replace flooring installed in
1996 at the Middle/High School. To date, approximately 1/3rd of the classroom
flooring has been replaced. The cost is $50,000 to complete 4 to 5 classrooms.
It was noted that last year rental fluids contributed to the flooring replacement
project. With declined rental funding, the budget has decreased significantly.
