-4-
drop off a copy with either Charlie or Marilyn by Monday.
Police Department/Harbor Master Proposal to Improve Handicapped Access at Mashpee
Boat Ramus
Carol Sherman mentioned that Tom Mayo had looked into grants, and there are none
available. Charlie M. said that they could look at Conservation Commission funds. Bob
W. commented that the community preservation fund is under the recreation article.
Bob W. mentioned that the Harbormaster has plans that far exceed anything he thought.
This is a boarding access with walkways parallel and adjacent to the boat ramp to assist
handicapped people in boarding boats in the water. Charlie M. commented that Tom
Fudala has information on this and that the discussion on the boat ramp came up after the
seven-year plan.
Bob W. said he met with the Police Chief and Harbormaster two weeks after the last
meeting, and that they were talking about using mooring fees for it. He thought that they
were going to speak with Wayne Taylor about Preservation Act funds and if the
Preservation Act can make the case, they will check into it.
There are plans for each of the five boat ramps, and it is a matter of priorities which one
they will do first. It will come down to the money.
Disabilqy Access on Busses Used for Dgy Trips Scheduled through the Senior Center
Bob W. commented that he and Beverly saw information about interesting upcoming
trips in the Sr. Center's monthly newsletter(Senior Dimension). There is a woman who
organizes these trips from elsewhere. (Note: Trips are organized by Karyn Wendell).
Upon inquiring as to whether the buses are handicapped accessible, the woman told him
that there is room for a wheelchair, but the person must be able to climb the stairs.
Bob W. said that he sent an e-mail to Jim Long and asked him what we could do. He
received a call from him this morning. Bob W. will plan to meet with them on March 22.
Beverly W. commented that in Hawaii, it is the law to have the busses handicapped
accessible. She said that you can get on any bus, and there is a place for a wheelchair.
Charlie M. commented that there are A.D.A. regulations and it is a civil rights violation.
Cape Cod Disabilily Access Handbook
Carol Sherman mentioned that she gave the book(from J.A.M. specialists)to Mary Lou
Palumbo of the Chamber of Commerce. People have called and she was able to give the
information to them. Bob W. said that there are things to add in the Mashpee section; i.e.
beach mat.
