6. Ballots and Town Meeting Warrants for the Blind. <br /> Bob Wooldridge stated that at the May 5'h election he spoke with Debbie Dami regarding the <br /> voting machine for the Blind. Debbie reported that noone had shown up to use it. There are 93 <br /> blind persons registered with the Commission on the Blind. Bob Wooldridge stated that <br /> Debbie is very much in favor of the idea of having a CD and/or audiotape version of the election <br /> ballot and the Town Meeting Warrant. Bob also spoke with Sherry Bergeron, Executive Director <br /> of The Audible Local Ledger, who is also in favor of supporting a CD/audiotape version and <br /> offered to provide tapes as well as volunteers for the project. Terri Cook stated that Wayne <br /> Taylor is currently volunteering with the Ledger and suggested that perhaps this committee also <br /> might want to become involved in producing the CD election ballot and the Town Meeting <br /> Warrant. <br /> 7. Barrier Free Playground. <br /> Bob Wooldridge stated that he visited the Dennis barrier-free playground, opened up this past <br /> April. Eastham now also has one. The Dennis playground cost $105,000, the one in Eastham <br /> cost $85,000. Parent groups are raising funds to help pay for the playgrounds. Terri Cook will <br /> ask Wayne Taylor about receiving funds from the CPC. Boy Scouts and Mashpee High School <br /> seniors may also be interested in the project. Trish Parolski will call the high school to find out <br /> who the Senior Adviser will be for student projects for the coming year. Trish will research <br /> Coombs and Quashnet schools re: special safety rubber mats to cover the playground <br /> surfaces. <br /> 8. Beach AccessIDPW & Boy Scouts <br /> Bob Wooldridge stated that he has not heard back from the Boy Scouts regarding this project. <br /> 9. Registry of Disabled —Meeting /Bill Dundon <br /> Bill Dundon reported that he had attended a Disability Policy Consortium meeting. The <br /> Consortium has put out a brochure on a Personal Emergency Preparedness Plan for all <br /> Mashpee residents. The preparedness plan is an ongoing evolving process. Privacy is one of <br /> the key issues of concern. <br /> 10. Handicapped Access Web Site. <br /> Web sites are being constructed all over New England, accepting information on accessibility at <br /> restaurants, recreational facilities, etc. The web sites are looking for input from individuals <br /> reporting on personal handicapped access experiences they have had. <br /> 11. Ad Hoc Committee on Visibility. <br /> Bob Wooldridge reported on a meeting in Dennis he attended last week. The basic issue <br /> discussed was where to go to address the issue of making changes in building codes. Bob <br /> shared with the attendees at the meeting the information from Charles Maintanis that any <br /> changes in building codes for single family and two family homes are the responsibility of the <br /> Board of Building Regulations and Standards. Bob stated that an attendee from the Mass. <br /> Office on Disability stated that building code adjustments can be made at the local level. Terri <br /> Cook stated that "Local Authority" exists. Bob will talk to Charles Maintanis regarding feasibility <br /> of making changes to Mashpee codes to incorporate visitability features. A member of the Ad <br /> Hoc Committee from another town will contact the Disability Law Center to get their read on <br /> what is legal at the local level. He added that state action would be the ultimate target for <br /> changes. <br /> 2 <br />
